Coming up - Dining in the Dark @ SAVH

>> Friday, October 23, 2009

Hi fellow Rotaractors

There will be an upcoming fellowship event in November 2009!!!

We will be having a "Dining In The Dark" Programme where you will get to experience eating in total darkness without the use of blindfolds !

Ever wonder how the visually handicapped people carries on with their daily life? How are they able to eat or even move in the dark?

Adapted from Channel News Asia Website (http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/332890/1/.html):

Server Ng Swee Kuen prepares the dining room. She uses her sense of touch to tell the cutlery apart because she has been totally blind for the past 16 years.

Server Soh Sang Hee prepares soup

Do sign up and experience it yourself whereby you are unable to rely on your sight and has to exploit your other senses such as taste, touch and smell during this session.

The details are as follows:
Date: 14th Nov 2009, Saturday
Venue: SAVH
Not sure where is it? Here’s the link http://www.savh.org.sg/about_contact.php
Time: Lunch time around 1130am (to be confirmed in the confirmation email)
Fee: $15* (Student price for a meal)
*Rotaract Club will try to subsidize a portion of the fee depending on the number of participants.

Do register via https://creator.zoho.com/np_rotaract/rotaract-club-of-ngee-ann-polytechnic-events/#Form:Dining_In_The_Dark1 by 31st Oct 2009.

Unfortunately, due to the space constraints of the center and the limited supplies, there are only 20 vacancies so it is based on first come first serve basis.

You will receive an confirmation email once you are selected for this event.

P.S. Those who register through club email will be void.

Cheers

Rotaract Amazing Race

>> Saturday, September 05, 2009

Hey Rotaractors,

Thank you for those who had participated in our first ever Rotaract Amazing Race on the 31st August 2009. As all of you know, Rotaract members can sign up for this race as pairs or as a person and the organizing committee will group everyone into groups of 4 to 6.

A total of 5 teams took part in this race and the race started from Ngee Ann Polytechnic LT51A. Everyone raced from the school and around town and there were a total of 10 stations. Wow~! Imagine completing the race in about 4~5 hours. Good job, everyone!!!

Although the weather nearly make a joke out of us, at least it didn't rain until the very end! Hope of you who had participated in this race has enjoyed yourself thoroughly and should you have any recommendations on how to improve this race, feel free to email to the club mail at cca_rotaract@np.edu.sg.

Let's take a look at some of the pictures that were taken. =)

Preparation Work
The organizing committee actually stayed over in school two days before the race to prepare all the materials that were needed for the race!!!

Preparing the materials

Picking the beans

Testing one of the station games

What are they so scared about?

The Station Masters
Woah~ Why do the station masters look so shag? It looks more like they were the ones running the race and were exhausted from the run.

Prize Presentation:
At least every group managed to get a prize after the race. =)

Consolidation Prizes

1st Runner-up (Group 8)

1st Place (Group 6)

Group Shot

Fellowship sub-committee (Rotaract Amazing Race Organizing Committee)
Let's give a round of applause to the organizing committee for planning this Amazing Race!!!

Stay tune to our very next event!!! =)

Blogging off,
