Calendars =)

>> Wednesday, August 23, 2006

Dear Volunteers,

We have came up with calendars (Year 2007) that are used for fundraising purposes for AWWA SMILES (Students Meet For Interaction, Learning and Enrichment Services).

This is a Before and After School Care for children with special needs aged 7-18years old. The children can be from special or mainstream school. They will be provided with therapy, educational enrichment sessions, educational outings, play activites, counselling for parents and financial assistance.

The objectives of SMILES are to provide quality care for children with special needs so that parents can enter the workforce and to give parents respite from taking care of their disabled children.

Suggested donation for each calendar $5-$10.

AWWA SMILES is located at our ACCESS (AWWA Centre for Care, Education and Social Services) building located at No. 9, Lorong Napiri, S(547531).

For more information, you can view our website at www.awwa.org.sg

If you are interested to donate, call me at 62911712 or come down to AWWA Family Service Centre - Blk 107 Towner Road #01-356 (near Boon Keng MRT).

Thank you for your time!

Regards,
Linnea Ong

Hello all folks!

From the last post, you have seen some major changes in the CCA system. This system is applicable to all year 1s.

Please note that you need to achieve a min of 48 points for the Achievement (A), Representation (R), Leadership (L) and Service (S) categories to get GOLD award.

This mean that you need to make an effort to take on leadership positions and do more community service to achieve objectives. If possible, achievement can be gained via competitions/NYAA. Representation comes in naturally when you take on leadership positions.

Hence, from looks of it, getting 100 points of Participation and Enrichment will not do you much help in getting your awards - :)

Anyways, all the best in the process of achieving you CCA objectives! :P

Want more information? Visit http://mars.np.edu.sg/sdar/CCA/Index_CCA.html Link is only available in school or via VPN network.

Cheers
yida

Two Events In a Day

>> Saturday, July 01, 2006

July 1 was a very eventful day and the events were very successful =D

Event A: Visit to NEWater Plant

A Professional Development event by Qian Jun, PD Director, this event had an amazing member attendance of 30 people. Everyone went back beaming with a bottle of NEWater, and bottled with NEWater knowledge. Hopefully, our next event will have higher particpation rate. :) YAY!!!

Your presence is always our motivation. Every single event we planned, organised and decided did not come easily. It takes a lot of communication and coordination to get the things done. Three cheers to Qian Jun for such an successful project!

Event B: Rotary Family Service Centre 5th Birthday Carnival

Rotary Foundation's Family Service Centre celebrated its birthday on 1st july by having a Carnival. It is a community service event =D. Some of our members became helpers of game stalls and helped in the Audio/Sound system component of the event.
The event began with Rotarian Mrs Nidhi giving out certificates of partipation to the Rotarians for the flag day coorganised with Ain Society. We also pariticipated it at Choa Chu Kang =D. A galore of performance by the small kids followed and songs sang by kid idol. It was a very enjoyable day. A total of 8 volunteers were present (maximum participants) and full attandance was achieved.

Well done members!!! Similar to the sayings of BA society, your enthusiasm, our motivation! =D

Please send an email to np.rotaract@yahoo.com.sg or qianjun_88@hotmail.com to confirm your attendance. Some of us have registered already, so we will be calling you to confirm you attendance. :)

Some of our members would be wondering? Why are we organising such a trip there? What is the main purpose?

As Rotaractors, we know we focus a lot on Community Service - which is what I am doing - finding appropriate projects for us to do.

But we also understand the importance of developing your other skills/knowledge. Some of us would want to learn how to write a good resume, how to be a good speaker and and have a better general knowledge of the events are that are going around us.

We are going to NEWater Visitor Centre this time we recognise Singapore always had water scarcity problem and there were some disputes over the water buying from Malaysia. We realised we have to be self reliant in water supply. NEWater is one of the solutions to the scarcity. We would like to know how NEWater is being done and how does it contribute to the nation's water supply :)

Importance of Installation/Induction Ceremony

>> Saturday, June 03, 2006

Hi members

For everyone's information, our installation is coming very soon and all of us- are very excited as our long preparation that started as early as March will be paid off :)

I would like to express the importance of the attendance of the Installation as the Induction is very important if you like get membership points for being just a member.

We are still contemplating whether to award membership CCA points for those who are members but not inducted. Induction is only once in your lifetime and there will not be any more of it once you are inducted.

Furthermore, it is NOT a very solemn or formal event as for this Rotary Year, we are not wearing all the formal stuff and etc.

There is a mix of casual and formality. :)

Details once again :

Date: 9th June 2006 Friday
Time 7pm
Cost: $10 ($8+2 -non inducted)
$8 (inducted)
$12 (any other guests, cca clubs etc)
Estimated end time: 10pm
Venue: LT 76 (Near NP alumni & Life Sciences and Chemical Technology Blocks area)
Dress code: smart casual (but no slippers and bermudas please)

The Little Peace
"Peace through little hands"

Well, just to give you little background information of the project, we started this project 3 months back with an objective to promote peace through the little hands of children. The concept of this project is to collect messages of PEACE from the children of different parts of the world and to spread them across to as many people as possible.

I express my sincere gratitude to all those Rotaract clubs who coordinated in their region to collect the PEACE messages from children. I am also thankful to the children who participated with their sweet messages.

I request you to read all messages from open heart and try to understand what a child is trying to say. As the small age, a child can't express every thought/feeling in clear expressions. But his only treasure- innocent and unbiased nature can lead you to the true message.

Please foward this mail to as many people as you can.

"Let peace prevail on earth"

» What is an installation?

An installation is an official ceremony that
announces the new office bearers aka new committee members with the new
positions.

» What is an induction?

It is an official pledge to be an rotaractor. All
members should be inducted in Rotaract's constitution. It comes with a
certificate.

» Do I need to pay for the certificate?

Yes. The induction certificate will cost only $2.

» Why should we go for the installation
and induction?

It is highly complusory for all members to go
and it is a meaningful event. For members/committee members, some of us are not
inducted and we need to be inducted to be official members. After the
induction, you would considered a rotaractor till you are 30 years old.

» Does the installation have any food? Must we pay?

The installation comes with a buffet dinner and you
would have to pay if you are eating. Members have special discounts. [Refer to the bottom details for the price]

Common FAQ

Why must I pay $5?

A: The reason is very simple. Although we do community service, we do need some funds to do more community work. Some things like purchase of things in a goodie bag given to a patient, we use these funds too.

Another great use of the funds is when promoting the club - Buying materials etc, and our installation etc.
